Established in 1995 by Luc Van Giap and Robert Prutton, Globalhire has gone from strength to strength ever since. Prior to this, in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s both were already DJ’s playing soul, hip-hop, dance and house music.
In 1995, after several years of being asked to also provide the sound systems for large dance parties throughout England they decided to concentrate full-time on the business and invested heavily in the necessary equipment.
By 1998 other equipment such as staging and video screens were added. Since then the equipment stocked has grown ten-fold but never lost sight of the core business – sound & lighting hire.
The quality of service provided is best highlighted by the fact that from this time right up to the present day several of our biggest customers such as Greene King PLC and The Chartridge Conference Company have retained and relied upon our services on a weekly basis for over twenty years.
Technology in the entertainment industry is constantly changing and this is reflected by our constant renewal of stock with the latest equipment. The biggest change in recent years being the impact of digital technology in both the control/operation of lighting fixtures as well as all areas of audio.
Increasingly our lighting hire department now stocks almost exclusively energy efficient LED based effects.
One of the most radical points in our history came in December 2003 when, after 9 years of trading as Global Productions Sound & Lighting Hire (often shortened to “globalhire”) the trading name was changed to simply globalhire.com reflecting the importance of our online presence.
Summer 2004 saw our move to a new 1170 sqft warehouse building at Icknield Way, Letchworth Garden City. These larger premises also allowed us room for increased workshop/maintenance space.
The business is still headed by Luc Van Giap whilst Robert Prutton branched out to form RNP Entertainment. However he still plies his trade as one of the most popular professional DJ’s we can supply.
Today we service the needs of several hundred customers by providing sound hire, lighting hire and conference equipment hire. The entertainment side of the business is also still growing year on year. In 2015 we passed the milestone of our 2,500th wedding disco! In 2016 we received two awards from the Wedding Business Awards, WedBiz. Acknowledging our teams Creative Talent and also in recognition of Outstanding Service.
Repeating this achievement in 2019 was amazing, and something we are doubly proud of!
